Description

NGC 7822 is a young star forming nebula that lies about 3,000 light-years away in the northern constellation of Cepheus.  Powerful winds and light emitting from hot stars within this stellar nursery sculpt the dense pillar shapes jetting out all over its dusty, gooey, center.  A bright star shines from near center of the image, HD 225216.  This giant star is not actually part of the nebula and can be seen with the naked eye, being only 300 light years from earth and more than 9 times bigger than our Sun.
